There seems to be a general opinion in our fledgling Buzz Marketing industry that many products and services are too serious or too boring to be good viral marketing prospects. When speaking to groups I love to dispel this opinion by asking audience members to state what company they work for and then showing live examples of how the Buzz is already happening.
Today's news that the Bush Administration is using YouTube...king of consumer generated and distributed videos...to promote anti-drug messages, is further validation of the power of the CGM for just about any message. Even more important is that the main stream media, from NPR to the Seatle times is picking up this story. Which in turn gets bloggers like yours truly writing about it. The term "viral marketing" is overused terribly these days, but this campaign is a true example of a campaign going viral.
