You're hired.
No journalism degree or experience required, just willingness to submit your news, photos or video and possibly have a world wide audience. A funny dog picture helps.
We've talked a lot in this blog about how consumers are creating marketing material for brands, MSNBC is now giving us all the opportunity to report on the news. The recently launched First Person allows readers to upload anything from hard hitting funny dog pictures to stories about the big underwater dance competition.
While the site is very reality TVish now.... visitors submit something quirky and we vote on just how quirky it is...it further represents the merging of mainstream media and consumer generated media. As you've probably heard me say over and over, "bloggers blog about the news, the news reports on blogs." This site makes a reader sit back and ask "news or blog?"
And for all of us hard working PR folks who ever spent days pitching to the media only to be rejected time and again, this little notice is certainly encouraging:
"Content you send in may be published online, and in some cases could be featured on NBC News and MSNBC-TV programs."
